Most often, sealing a class makes the best sense when you are designing a utility class. For example, the System namespace defines numerous sealed classes. You can verify this for yourself by opening up the Visual Studio 2010 Object Browser (via the View menu) and selecting the String class within the System namespace of the mscorlib.dll assembly. Notice in Figure 6-1 the use of the sealed keyword seen within the Summary window.

Figure 13-3. By returning the name of the menu tab from hook_search_info(), the search form becomes accessible. hook_search_execute() is the workhorse part of Drupal's search hooks. It is invoked when the search form is submitted, and its job is to collect and return the search results. In the preceding code, we query the url_alias table, using the search terms submitted from the form. We then collect the results of the query and send them back in an array. The results are formatted by the search module and displayed to the user, as shown in Figure 13-4.

Note In 4 you learned that C# structures are always implicitly sealed (see Table 4-3). Therefore, you can never derive one structure from another structure, a class from a structure or a structure from a class. Structures can only be used to model standalone, atomic, user defined-data types. If you wish to leverage the Is-A relationship, you must use classes.

As you would guess, there are many more details to inheritance that you will come to know during the remainder of this chapter. For now, simply keep in mind that the colon operator allows you to establish base/derived class relationships, while the sealed keyword prevents subsequent inheritance from occurring.

Pressflow is a drop-in replacement of the standard Drupal core, including many performance enhancements over and above Drupal core. Otherwise, from all outward appearances, Pressflow is entirely the same as Drupal. Many of Pressflow s features continue to make their way into the Drupal core; however, the folks at Four Kitchens continue to push the envelope when it comes to optimizing Drupal. At the time this book was written, there wasn t an official release of Pressflow for Drupal 7. In 2, I briefly mentioned that Visual Studio 2010 allows you to establish base/derived class relationships visually at design time. To leverage this aspect of the IDE, your first step is to include a new class diagram file into your current project. To do so, access the Project Add New Item menu option and select the Class Diagram icon (in Figure 6-2, I renamed the file from ClassDiagram1.cd to Cars.cd).

Figure 6-2. Inserting a new class diagram Once you click the Add button, you will be presented with a blank designer surface. To add types to a class designer, simply drag each file from the Solution Explorer window onto the surface. Also recall that if you delete an item from the visual designer (simply by selecting it and pressing the Delete key), this will not destroy the associated source code, but simply removes the item off the designer surface. The current class hierarchy is shown in Figure 6-3.
